The inspiration for Harold’s Brasserie and Bar is Harold Dawson. Born in Marton outside Middlesborough in North Yorkshire in 1910, he trained originally as a master butcher. In the Second World War he joined the RAF and was trained as a chef, serving in Berwick and Iceland.

On leaving the RAF rationing was still in place so he trained and became a commission agent until the 1960’s, when he developed a chain of betting shops across the North East of England which he subsequently sold to the Ladbrokes group.

Retiring to Jersey in the early 1970’s, Harold bought the Pandora Hotel in 1974. The hotel has grown from 30 to 55 rooms including the building where Victor Hugo’s mistress, Madame Druet resided. Harold, with passion, pride and enormous flair developed the hotel and it has continued from strength to strength over 50 years of family ownership. Two of his grandsons are now the current directors.

We are proud to serve a seasonal range of excellent food and drink in surroundings that are sophisticated, stylish and debonair, yet informal and welcoming – the very qualities that Harold himself brought to the Pandora over half a century ago.
